What is ELO power ranking?

ELO is a rating system that tracks the real strength of teams over time. At the start, every team begins with the same score. After each match, ratings are adjusted based on the result: if a strong team wins, it gains only a few points, but if an underdog pulls off an upset, it earns much more.

The system also considers key factors such as home advantage, the importance of the match — playoffs count more — and even the goal difference. Extreme scorelines are capped so that one game cannot decide everything.

What makes ELO unique is that it is a zero-sum system: the number of points in the league never changes. What one team gains, the other loses. Over multiple seasons, this creates a dynamic ranking that reflects who is truly strongest — not just through wins and losses, but through the quality of every performance.

In our Czech Superleague rankings, we have tracked a full eleven years of history. That means we can follow how the balance of power has shifted, which teams rose, which fell and how floorball has evolved over more than a decade.

Why ELO power ranking?

Traditional standings tell us who won the most games. ELO goes further — it shows us who is actually strongest. That difference matters.

Context for results

A 10–2 win against a struggling team does not mean as much as edging out a title favourite. ELO makes that distinction.

Spotting real form

Because ratings adjust after every match, we can see whether a team is genuinely improving or simply benefiting from an easier schedule.

Long-term storylines

Across eleven seasons, ELO reveals dynasties, turning points and decline years that raw league tables often hide.

Comparability across years

By resetting slightly each off-season, ELO lets us compare teams not only within one season but across a full decade of Czech Superleague history.

In short, ELO turns results into insight. It helps us understand momentum, shifts in strength and the evolution of the league in a way the standings never could.

03

Dominance at the top

Looking at how often teams reached the top of the ELO ranking makes it clear who shaped the modern era of the Czech Superleague.

Longest reign250+rounds ranked #1

Mladá Boleslav

Sustained challengers

Tatran Střešovice and Chodov

Both enjoyed long stretches at the top, although never on the same scale.

Shorter spells

Vítkovice, Sparta, Znojmo and others

Several clubs reached first place briefly before the balance shifted again.

While the league has remained competitive, true control has rested in the hands of only a few dynasties.

11 seasons of ELO

This chart shows the ELO rating development of every team across eleven Superleague seasons. Each line represents a journey through moments of dominance, rebuilding years and sudden breakthroughs.

Mladá Boleslav clearly stands out. Their steady climb and sustained peaks underline a decade of dominance. Vítkovice, Tatran and Chodov form the competitive chasing group, regularly trading positions and enjoying their own high points.

Mid-tier teams such as Bohemians, Sparta and Ostrava remain closer to the middle, occasionally spiking upwards but rarely staying in the leading group for long. At the bottom, clubs such as Black Angels, Liberec and Hattrick Brno illustrate the difficulty of consistently competing against the league’s elite.

Conclusion

Across eleven seasons, ELO power rankings reveal much more than wins and losses. They show the rise and fall of dynasties, the moments when challengers broke through and how the balance of Czech floorball shifted over time.

While a handful of clubs defined the era, the data also highlights how dynamic and unpredictable the league can be.
